THREE junior football clubs have been cleared of any wrong-doing after a league probe into claims of racist abuse at matches.

The investigation confirmed there was no evidence to suggest anyone involved with Farnworth FC Sables, Bolton-based Rooftec Rangers or Aspull Juniors, had made any racist comments.

Bolton, Bury and District Junior Football League launched its inquiry after players at Hindley Town's under-12s side reported that they had heard racist comments during a training session. No adults had reported any incident.

League chairman Steven Hill confirmed the clubs had been cleared of any suggested wrongdoing.

He said: "The matter has been investigated and concluded to everybody's satisfaction.

"It was an alleged incident that has been investigated and was proven to be unfounded.

"There has been correspondence between myself and all four clubs involved to tell them the results of the inquiry."

Rooftec Rangers' club secretary, Michael Horan, said that at no point did he believe racist abuse had taken place.

"I'm glad it has all been sorted out," he said.

"We haven't had any incidents of racism over the years. We have over 200 children from all backgrounds and we have a very strict policy on racism.

"We will not stand for it and anyone who breaks the rules would be suspended."

Sharon Hubber, child protection officer for Farnworth FC, said: "We are a good club with more than 300 children playing football here. Clearly we are not a racist club."

John Parker, general secretary at Aspull Juniors, said he always had every confidence that the league's investigation would reveal no wrongdoing.

He said: "From a club point of view we had a very clear conscience and we've had reassurance from the league that our club was cleared.

"We are pleased that has been proven."
