A PENSIONER who sexually abused two young girls 35 years ago is starting an eight year jail term.

At Bolton Crown Court 77-year-old David Waring admitted 10 counts of indecent assault and a further three counts of indecency with a child in the 1970s and 1980s.

Judge Graeme Smith was told he abused one girl regularly between the ages of nine and 15 and targeted his second victim over a period of three years until she was aged 14.

The offences included Waring indecently touching the girls and getting one of them to perform sex acts on him.

Mark Monaghan, prosecuting, said the girls came forward to tell police about their ordeal toward the end of last year and one victim continues to suffer anxiety because of the abuse.

"It isn't just 30 years ago - it's now," she said in a statement read out in court.

When arrested by police Waring, of Priory Place, Tonge Moor, did not refute the girls' allegations.

Wayne Jackson, defending, told the court: "He offers no explanation or excuse for his behaviour.

"He accepts that it is going to be a sentence of some length."

In addition to jailing Waring, Judge Smith placed him on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period and he was banned from working with children and vulnerable adults.
