LOVESTRUCK couples can now have a 'barn-storming' wedding at the Wellbeing Farm — after the venue received a licence allowing people to tie the knot.

The farm in Edgworth says it has received an increase in bookings since being awarded the licence this week.

It previously held wedding receptions and functions, but now couples can enjoy their big day under one roof.

Couples will receive a tailored package to suit their needs, with a range of quirky options available for an alternative to the traditional church wedding.

The farm's barn can be customised to suit and bosses even promise that the farm's animals will be dressed for the occasion, with its llamas wearing bow ties.

Bosses are advertising its ‘country chic’, with a rustic feel being created with bales of hay being used as benches and wooden tables and chairs.

The first wedding is expected to be held in July.

Celia Gaze, managing director of the Wellbeing Farm, said: "We offered wedding receptions before but the interest in this has been huge. It is more of an attractive offer to people when they can do everything under one roof.

"We like to meet people and see what they want first, but the farm is customisable and we can tailor it to what people want.

"This will be a huge boost to our business, we have our first wedding this summer and I am sure we will have even more interest."

The idea for the farm came after Ms Gaze was signed off from her previous job in the NHS after suffering from stress caused by working long days and weekend shifts, and struggling to balance work and family life.

She transformed the 18th century building with the help of her partner Stephen Whitehead from being a rundown farm into a venue used for events and course, as well as featuring a cookery school, opening in April, 2013.

Visitors can also get up close and personal with the animals at the farm, which include llamas, donkeys, pigs, sheep, geese, ducks, quail, guinea fowl, rabbits, free range chickens and pheasants.

The Wellbeing Farm is holding a number of open days over weekends in the coming months, with the next to be held on Sunday from 11am to 3pm.
