PETER Kay's Car Share and its stars have been nominated for awards at this year's TV Baftas.

The show will battle it out in the scripted comedy category against Chewing Gum, Peep Show and People Just Do Nothing.

It has also been selected for the Radio Times audience award — voted for by members of the public — against Doctor Foster, The Great British Bake Off, Humans, Making A Murderer and Poldark.

Peter Kay is up for male performance in a comedy programme against Hugh Bonneville in W1A, Javone Prince in The Javone Prince Show and Toby Jones in Detectorists.

Co-star Sian Gibson is nominated for female performance in a comedy programme alongside Michaela Coel in Chewing Gum, Miranda Hart in Miranda and Sharon Horgan in Catastrophe.

Earlier this month, it was announced the Bolton comedian had been shortlisted for a British Academy Television Craft Award.

Kay and co-writers Gibson and Paul Coleman have been nominated for their work on the show in the 'Writer — Comedy' category.

They face competition from the writers of Catastrophe, Hunderby and Peep Show.

Bafta's Craft Awards honour behind-the-scenes talent working in television and winners will be announced at a ceremony in The Brewery, London, on Sunday, April 24.

The TV Bafta nominations were announced at Bafta's London headquarters in Piccadilly by Dermot O'Leary and last year's leading actress winner Georgina Campbell, who starred in Murdered By My Boyfriend.

Film and TV star Sir Ian McKellen — who went to Bolton School and attended last year's inaugural Bolton Pride event — has been nominated for supporting actor for The Dresser.

The awards will be handed out on Sunday, May 8.
