Woman, 22, sentenced for cops attack

A WOMAN who assaulted two policemen has been dealt with by a court.

Stephanie Cunliffe, of Chapeltown Road, Bromley Cross, attacked PC Meadon and PC Sumner in Bolton on December 20.

The 22-year-old also caused £50 worth of damage to police equipment in Swinton on the same day.

Cunliffe admitted two counts of assaulting a police officer and one of criminal damage at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. 

She was given a year-long community order with a requirement to complete up to 24 days of rehabilitation activity.

Magistrates fined her £100 and she was ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and court costs of £85.

Cunliffe must pay £100 compensation to PC Meadon, £750 compensation to PC Sumner and £50 compensation to Greater Manchester Police.

OAP, 69, given fine for driving without care

A 69-YEAR-OLD man has been fined for driving without due care and attention.

Clive Baines, of Higher Drake Meadow, Westhoughton, admitted being behind the wheel of a 2002-reg Volvo S80 seen driving erratically in Wigan Road, Leigh Road and Nel Plane Lane, Leigh, on December 17.

He crashed into a Peugeot RCZ and drove off during the incident.
Baines admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on March 30.

Magistrates fined him £233 and he was ordered to pay a £23 victim surcharge and court costs of £85.

He was given eight penalty points on his driving licence, which had been suspended pending the outcome of the case.

Threatening behaviour man in court

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge for 12 months after he admitted using threatening behaviour in Bolton on March 5.

Gareth Larner, aged 46, of Cromer Avenue, Bolton, was also ordered to pay £100 in costs and charges.

Drug man sentenced

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge after he pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis.

The drug was found on Darren McMinn, aged 48, of Connaught Square, Bolton, on Christmas Eve last year.
In addition to the sentence he was ordered to pay £100 in costs and charges.

Cannabis driver banned

A VAN driver who was caught with illegal levels of cannabis in his system as been fined £250 by Bolton magistrates.

Philip Needham, aged 45, of Lords Stile Lane, Bromley Cross, was caught whilst driving a Mercedes Vito on Tonge Moor Road on February 15.

He was banned from holding a driving licence and must pay £110 in costs and charges.

Man to be sentenced for possessing thousands of child porn images

A PSYCHIATRIC report is to be prepared into a man who was caught with thousands of indecent images of children.

At Bolton Crown Court James Aherne, aged 49, of Osbourne Grove, Bolton, pleaded guilty to possessing 355 of the most serious category A photographs and videos of children, 759 category B images and 94,528 category C images.

Aherne was caught with the indecent images on April 24 last year.

Sentencing was adjourned until May 31 to allow time for reports, including a psychiatric assessment, to be carried out.

In the meantime Aherne, who is to be placed on the sex offenders' register, was granted bail with conditions including having no unsupervised contact with children.

Judge Graeme Smith told him: "At this stage all I can say is all sentencing options are open."

Teenage girls admit assault

TWO teenagers have been sentenced to 12 weeks detention suspended for 12 months after admitting assaulting a girl.

Rachel Scott, aged 18, of Gilnow Gardens, Heaton, and Charlotte Shuker, aged 18, of Wentbridge Road, Halliwell, admitted the offence before Bolton magistrates and must also both carry out 80 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months.

Magistrates also ordered the pair to each pay compensation of £150 and costs of £85.

Ban and fine for drug-driver

A MOTORIST has been fined after admitting driving while under the influence of drugs.

Victoria Ireton, aged 43, of Cheriton Gardens, Horwich, was fined £400 and banned from driving for 12 months by Bolton magistrates.

She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £40 and costs of £150.

Man fined for racial threats

MAGISTRATES have fined a man £370 after finding him guilty of racially aggravated threatening behaviour.

Austin Stones, aged 21, of Hospital Road, Bromley Cross, had admitted using threatening behaviour on September 20 last year, but denied there was a racial element.

However, following a trial, he was convicted and, in addition to the fine, was ordered to pay £687 in costs and charges.

Assault man given conditional discharge after changing plea

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman on December 29 last year.

Safwan Adam, aged 29, of Deane Road, Bolton, had initially denied committing the offence but then changed his plea.

He was also ordered to pay £215 in costs and charges.

Drink driver banned and fined

A MOTORIST has been banned from the roads for 18 months after being caught drink driving.

Giedrius Adamickius, aged 20, of Gloucester Avenue, Bolton, was stopped whilst driving a Toyota Avensis on Dicconson Lane, Westhoughton, on March 14.

Bolton magistrates were told that he had drunk nearly double the legal alcohol limit and had no licence or insurance.

He pleaded guilty to committing the offences and was fined £420 plus £127 in costs and charges.

Woman sentenced after electricity theft verdict

A WOMAN convicted of stealing electricity has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for two years.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Chelsea Seddon, aged 22, of Nuttall Avenue, Horwich, denied dishonestly using electricity worth £66.64 between November 7 2014 and July 9 last year.

She was found guilty following a trial and was ordered to pay £66.64 compensation plus £275 in costs and charges.

Shoplifter spared jail

A SHOPLIFTER has been spared jail after admitting stealing goods worth £156 from a Bolton store.

Julie Leach, aged 49, of no fixed address, committed the offence in Boots on March 28.

At Bolton Magistrates' Court she was sentenced to six weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, ordered to participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities and must pay £120 in costs and charges.

Handbag thief handed conditional discharge

A WOMAN who stole handbags worth £750 from TK Maxx in Bolton has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Melanie Parker, aged 41, of Sanderson Court, Redbrook Avenue, Monsall, admitted stealing the bags on February 3.

She was also ordered to pay £100 in costs and charges.

Man sentenced for breaching court order

A MAN has been handed a conditional discharge for 12 months by magistrates after he admitted breaching a non-molestation order by contacting a woman in Bolton on January 6.

James Boore, aged 26, of Beechwood Avenue, Ramsbottom, was also ordered to pay £100 in costs and charges and a restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victim.

Petrol thief in court

A THIEF who repeatedly drove off from petrol stations without paying for fuel has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months by Bolton magistrates.

Gyula Horvath, aged 46, of Kylemore Avenue, Bolton, admitted committing the offences, taking fuel worth a total of £175 on February 24, 25 and 26 and also admitted failing to surrender to court.

In addition to the conditional discharge, Horvath was ordered to pay £175 compensation plus £100 in prosecution costs and charges.

Threatening behaviour man in court

A CONDITIONAL discharge for 12 months has been handed to a man who admitted using threatening behaviour in Bolton on June 8 last year.

Anthony Cadman, aged 47, of Red Lane, Breightmet, was also ordered to pay £100 in costs and charges.

Van damage man sentenced

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge for 12 months after he pleaded guilty to damaging a Ford Transit van in Bolton on November 1 last year.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Rhys Parker, aged 22, of Ryebank Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, was also ordered to pay £160.56 compensation plus £100 in costs and charges.

Assault man sentenced to do 200 hours unpaid work

A COURT has sentenced a man to do 200 hours unpaid work after he admitted assaulting a woman on three occasions.

Bolton magistrates heard how Kennedy Corvelli, aged 20, of Minster Road, Tonge Moor, committed the assaults on December 5 last year and February 15 and 16.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation plus £145 in costs and charges.

Attacker fined

MAGISTRATES fined a man £100 for admitting to assaulting a woman.

Daniel Roberts, aged 27, of Prince Street, Bolton, was sentenced to a community order and also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

Court for bike theft

A THIEF who stole a bike worth £450 from Decathlon in Bolton has been conditionally discharged for 12 months.

Shannon Wilkinson, aged 18, of Lever Street, Radcliffe, admitting stealing a BTWIN Rockrider bicycle from the sports shop on January 28.

She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85 by Bolton magistrates.

Suspended jail time for thief

A THIEF who stole perfume from Debenhams as well as a mobile phone in a separate incident has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Michael Burns, aged 36, of Laurel Court, Bolton, was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months after pleading guilty to two counts of theft.

He also admitted assaulting a police officer.

Burns was also ordered to pay compensation of £110, a victim surcharge of £80 and costs of £85.
