FIRES in Leverhulme Park are becoming an ongoing problem say firefighters.

A crew from Bolton was called to the park in Long Lane, at about 8.30pm on Monday, after reports of a rubbish fire.

The fire was started near to the football pitches and bowling green and is believed to have been lit by youths.

Crew Manager Chris Wilcox said: "We keep getting calls from people to say that there are fires on the park and it is taking up a lot of our time.

"There are not usually big fires, or cause a lot of damage but every time we have to go out to them it is one pump less that can go out on the run."
