DETECTIVES have charged a suspect with murdering a man who died after being attacked outside a chip shop in Leigh.
Edward Wood, aged 50, was found by paramedics at 11.45pm on May 4 in Railway Road, Leigh, with life-threatening injuries.
The father-of-two, who had just learned he was to become a grandad later this year, was taken to hospital but died there later.
It was established he had been attacked by a group of people and had personal items stolen from him at around 11pm that same evening close to the Oceans 11 takeaway in Railway Road.
Dwayne Turner, aged 28, of Railway Road, Leigh, has been charged with Mr Wood's murder and is due to appear from custody before Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
Three other men aged 31, 38 and 46 were arrested in connection with Mr Wood's murder and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
