RESIDENTS are being warmed about bogus e-mails and telephone calls purporting to come from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
Bolton police took to Twitter to say it had received complaints about criminals pretending to be the tax office in order to scam victims' bank details.
Officers wrote: "Genuine HMRC enquiries are never conducted this way.
"Please be aware should this happen that the calls will be false."
They advised anyone with suspicions to contact the HMRC via the gov.uk website
