A SCHOOL celebrated the Queen's birthday with a traditional street party.

And all 1,000 pupils at Bolton St Catherine's Academy were invited.

Tables and chairs were set out in the playground so all the school could celebrate together.

And fortunately the rain held off for the young people, from nursery to sixth form, to celebrate with afternoon tea.

The idea to celebrate Her Majesty's Queen II birthday came from secondary school pupils, who remember the fun of a street party when they were in the primary sector of the school to mark the Queen's jubilee.

Chris Hill, deputy head of the primary sector and year six teacher, said the event on Friday afternoon had been a massive success.

He said: "It was only the primary sector in the school which held a street party for the jubilee celebrations.

"This time the pupils wanted all the school to be involved. The atmosphere was buzzing, it was the only word to describe it."

Young musicians played the National Anthem, the whole school said grace together before tucking into traditional afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and fruit platters.
