A YOB tossed a lit firework towards supermarket shoppers in an astonishingly dangerous act of thuggery.
The culprit, believed to be a local teenage boy, threw the fizzing pyrotechnic from outside into Sainsbury's in Cricketers Way, Westhoughton, at just before 8pm yesterday.
It landed and blew up with a bang near a man who was leaving the store with his child.
Neither the pair nor other customers or staff were injured.
A witness said: "A firework was thrown through the front door of Sainsbury's Westhoughton store.
"The firework exploded about 2ft from a young girl who was with her father."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the youngster responsible had run off after the incident.
There have been no arrests and officers continue to investigate.
A spokesman for Sainsbury's said: "We can confirm there was an incident in the store last night.
"Thankfully no customers or colleagues were harmed."
