BURY College staff and students have set themselves a target to collect 10,000 food items in December.
The items will then be donated to Lifeshare, a charity that helps homeless people and Porch Boxes a charity that provides crisis packs of food and toiletries for local people in urgent need.
Included on the most wanted list for both organisations are tinned food, packet soup, rice, pasta, cereals, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls and cleaning materials.
David Mottershead, student learning mentor said: "Bury College is proud to support both of these charities and champion the amazing work that they do.
"This charity initiative will not only raise food and awareness but will also further develop students understanding about the importance of charity work."
As part of the college wide charity drive, each tutor group will receive a 10 minute presentation which will highlight to students the excellent work both charities carry out and the difference that the food parcels can make on people’s lives.
Tim Hudson, Bury College student governor said: "I think that the Lifeshare charity is a really good cause because it helps people where they need it most.
"Although I think that handing out food is absolutely great, the thing that I like about Lifeshare is the other things that they offer such as the support, assistance and information. I am proud that Bury College will be supporting this cause."
