A RAMSBOTTOM landlord has been celebrating after scooping a national award.

Glen Duckett from the Eagle and Child was awarded at the National Innovation in Training Awards.

The ceremony was organised by The British Institute of Innkeeping, the professional body representing individuals working across the licensed hospitality industry.

Mr Duckett won the individual operator trainer of the year award because of the work he does with his staff.

He explained: “I was absolutely delighted to win, I wasn’t expecting it at all because it is such a prestigious award.

“I like to support young people who would not necessarily have a chance to enter in to the catering profession because of barriers in their lives.

“I want to give young vulnerable people a chance and a pathway in to the catering industry.”

The popular in Whalley Road restaurant will be closing its doors for two months from January 9 for a refurbishment.

In addition to the full interior refurbishment there will be five new bedrooms built and an orangery.

While work is ongoing a pop up bar will be opening in The Vaults, Bolton, on January 13.

Mr Duckett said: “ We felt it was a really positive environment for a temporary bar.

““Who knows what might happen.”
