THE husband of a woman who was killed after being hit by a car on New Year’s Eve, is still in a critical condition.

James Bolton, aged 67, was crossing New Bury Road with his wife Lorraine, aged 66, when they were hit by a driver in a Toyota Yaris.

Mrs Bolton was pronounced dead at the scene and Mr Bolton was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where police have said he remains in a “critical condition”.

The driver of the vehicle, believed to be in his70s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

It is understood that the couple, who have three sons, Andrew, William and Jason, had got off a bus and were crossing the road at the junction of Radcliffe Moor Road, close to the border of Radcliffe and Breightmet, when they were hit by the vehicle travelling eastbound.

A tribute was released by the family on Monday which read: “Lorraine was a daughter to Joan, mum to Andrew, Jason and William and a mother-in-law to Tracey, Jo-Ann and Joanne.

“She was a doting nan to Lauren, Rachel and Nathaniel.

“She was a quiet, gentle soul who was friendly, honest, well liked and kind.”

It is believed the couple, who are from Bolton, would go to Bury most Saturdays.

Police said that there is “no update on the investigation” but no arrests have been made.

Tributes have also continued to pour in on social media.

Friend Sheila Diamond wrote: “RIP Lorraine you will be sadly missed, thoughts are with Andy, Jason and Will.

“Hope Jim makes a full recovery keep fighting hun.”
