COUNCIL chiefs have refused to confirm or deny whether the Wayne Walker site will be used to base a new multi-storey car park to serve the town’s £48 million transport interchange.

The interchange project is nearing completion and The Bolton News understands the council has settled on a site for the important new car park, with an announcement to be made soon.

As mentioned in today’s front page story, staff members at the now closed Wayne Walker business claim they have been told it is their former workplace that will make way for the car park.

The council announced last year that there would be a new multi-storey built to compliment the £48 million project, in order to allow people to park up before getting the bus or train to their chosen destinations.

The interchange project is coming close to completion and is expected to open to the public in May.

It is being built alongside a new £6.5 million office block called Bolton Central, which is expected to open around the same time.

Bolton Council said no one was available to respond to the claims that the new multi-storey car park will be built on the Wayne Walker site at the corner of Bradshawgate and Trinity Street.
