BUSINESSES are appealing for the council to clear up a fly-tipping site near their premises.
For years the wasteland at the junction of Shaw Street and Rothwell Street near Bolton town centre has been blighted by piles of rubbish.
And garages near the site say, despite regular complaints to the council, the problem has not been solved, with drug users attracted to the land as well.
“It is a terrible hazard for children and it’s quite embarrassing when we have customers here we are pricing up jobs for,” said John O’Doodly, foreman at Rothwell Body Repair Centre.
He added that the only time rubbish disappears is when it disintegrates or scavengers turn up and take items.
“It’s like a swap shop sometimes,” said Mr O’Doodly.
“And in summer it stinks and is disgusting. The council needs to do something about it.”
A council spokesman said: “We will send our enforcement team to examine the waste and contact the landowner to discuss its removal.
“If you see anyone fly-tipping or see any sites which has fly-tipped waste on it, please contact us. Fly-tipping can be reported on our website and more information is available at http://www.bolton.gov.uk/Flytipping.”
