A TENNIS club has been blocked from building an extension to its clubhouse due to concern for a number of protected trees.
Lostock Park Tennis Club was refused permission by Bolton Council for a two-storey extension, replacement windows and internal modifications.
It told the council "the intention with this proposal is to increase the facilities available within
the tennis clubhouse in order to provide improved facilities for members".
The club wanted to expand its clubhouse at the site in Regent Road, Lostock, to make the L-shaped building a square.
But the council's tree and woodland officer found lime trees and a horse chestnut tree and their roots could be affected by the construction work and the scheme was rejected on the basis "the proposed development would be likely to result in damage to and ultimately the unacceptable loss of trees from the site, to the detriment of the character, appearance and amenity of the application site and the area in which it is set".
