EXTRA security measures at Manchester Airport are causing delays to motorists.

Airports have stepped up security following a burning car crashing into Glasgow Airport yesterday and two foiled car bomb attempts in London on Friday.

Following advice from the Home Office, parking restrictions are in place outside all terminal buildings at Manchester Airport.

Customers wishing to pick up or drop off passengers will be redirected to the car parks.

All passengers are being advised to arrive at the airport at least 20 minutes earlier for their flight.

Manchester Airport already has strict procedures for passenger pick up.

A police spokesman said the extra security has caused delays for motorists travelling around the area and holidaymakers from Bolton should allow plenty of extra time to get to the airport.

Passengers are also reminded that security restrictions remain in place with regard to cabin baggage, and to make sure they have no liquids over 100ml in their hand baggage.

Liverpool's John Lennon Airport was closed for more than eight hours on Saturday night leaving hundreds of passengers stranded because a suspicious vehicle was found.

The airport has been re-opened but a number of flights have been cancelled and passengers are urged to check with their airlines before starting their journeys.
