ENGLAND have got a real talent on their hands in the form of Stuart Broad, and his display against the West Indies yesterday underlined those credentials.

Broad took 3-20 with the ball, while also bagging two assured catches, and he played an instrumental role in a victory that will bring a smile to long-suffering England one-day fans.

Broad first caught my eye with his performances for Leicestershire in his side's victorious Twenty20 campaign last season, and he is carrying on that form in the international arena.

What impressed me about Broad is his unerring confidence in his own ability. In one crucial game last season, he was confronted by seasoned all-rounder Ronnie Irani and he won that battle hands down by dismissing the sledging former England international for a single figure score.

Broad might look like he is fresh from the playground, but he refuses to be bullied and that is a key asset that will complement his bowling skills to make him a fine England player for years to come.

Broad has everything in his locker. He is tall, gets bounce, bowls at a lively pace and he has the canny knack of varying pace, seam and swing movement. He could be England's answer to Glenn McGrath.

England have invested lots of time in players like Liam Plunkett, James Anderson and Sajid Mahmood and they should do the same with Broad. He is deserving of a place in a mis-firing Test attack and, with the right guidance, can go on to great things.

However, more than one promising star has fallen by the wayside after an encouraging start. Let's hope this star burns even more brightly.
