A THIEF stole cheques from celebrity guests at a top Manchester hotel as part of a conspiracy which made £41,000.

Mohammed Hajee, aged 33, of Watersmead Close, Bolton, and Najib Khelifi, aged 28, of Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge, were two of a group of 11 charged with conspiracy to defraud.

The pair, who pleaded guilty to the offences, appeared at Bolton Crown Court.

As part of a cheque-stealing con, Khelifi took blank cheques from cheque books in guests rooms at the Arora International Hotel, Princess Street, Manchester between December 2004 and April 2005 where he worked and had access to the master key.

The victims included actors Joe Absolom, who played Matthew Rose in BBC's EastEnders, and Ian Puleston-Davies, who has been in BBC's Silent Witness and ITV's The Bill.

Hajee and Khelifi will be sentenced along with the other defendants at Bolton Crown Court on Friday, July 20.
