Officials at Haydock Park have called off their meeting on Thursday after an inspection this morning.

There will be a further inspection at 8am on Friday to see whether racing can go ahead later that day.

Having been hit by a significant amount of recent rain, clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright had been left with no option but to call the early check.

He said yesterday: "We've had a very wet 24 hours with 26 millimetres of rain between 8am on Sunday and 10am today.

"We've also had more since then with more to come, so have decided to call an inspection for 8am on Tuesday.

"That is obviously pre-declaration time and if the situation is hopeless, we'll take a decision then and hopefully it'll help people in terms of their planning.

"The forecast on Thursday is better, so while prospects for Thursday are not great, they are better for Friday and Saturday. Hopefully it'll relent a bit and we'll get some racing."
