A SHOWCASE of the town's musical youth will take place this weekend.

Youngsters will be hoping the rain holds off as they take to an outdoor bandstand for Westhoughton's Music in the Park on Saturday.

The showcase will be held at St James' Primary School in Daisy Hill and is hosted by the town's Rotary Club. Children from five primary schools - St Thomas Chequerbent in Eatock, St George's, St James' and St Aelred's in Newton-le-Willows - will perform in choirs and bands.

Westhoughton-based dance troupe NRG and Greater Manchester amateur swing band Sweet Rhythm will also take to the stage, from 2.30pm to 8pm.

Admission is by programme, priced 1, and includes entry into a prize draw with a chance to win 100. Programmes are on sale in Westhoughton shops and participating schools.
