A POLICE officer has told of the moment a stabbed man was kicked as he fell to the ground in Bolton town centre.

PC Akeel Kadir, who saw the attack as he was getting out of his police van, told a jury at Manchester Crown Court: "It was like a running football penalty kick, or a drop kick."

He said Rabid Amin was falling to the ground in Bradshawgate when a man ran towards him and aimed a kick towards his upper back or neck. PC Kadir said he jumped from his van and arrested and cautioned the man who aimed the kick.

The court heard that the man was Gulstan Azam, aged 25, of Rawson Street, Farnworth, who has pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

PC Kadir's evidence was heard yesterday as the trial of Jabar Ahmed went into a second week. He is accused of stabbing Mr Amin to death with a six-inch kitchen knife in Bradshawgate, Bolton, in the early hours of Sunday, November 19, last year.

Ahmed, aged 19, of Campbell Street, Farnworth, denies murder and also denies possession of an offensive weapon and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to another man, Sajid Ahmed.

The court had previously heard that a feud between two groups of men turned nasty after a night out at the J2 club in Nelson Square, Bolton, which resulted in the fight that led to Mr Amin's death.

Mr Amin, a married, self-employed carpet fitter from Great Lever, was treated by paramedics at the scene, outside Raja's Takeaway, but died later in hospital.

Ahmed denies all the charges and claims he was acting in self defence.

The case continues today.
