LEIGH'S Turnpike Gallery will exhibit the work of the world's leading rock 'n' roll lightshow specialist this summer.

Willie Williams, who has worked the likes of U2, The Rolling Stones and REM, will showcase his talents with his first ever art project.

It is a UK first for the Turnpike as this is the first time Williams has accepted an invitation to create an installation for an art gallery.

Martyn Lucas, visual arts officer for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, said: "Willie's light-themed installation playfully incorporates a range of household objects.

"It is a really unique and exciting event for all visitors to the gallery."

The exhibition, entitled Lumia Domestica, runs from this Saturday until September 1, and is free to view.

An opening event takes place at the gallery from 12.30pm to 3pm on Saturday, when visitors will have the chance to view the exhibition and speak to Willie in person.
