SAMMY Lee is running the rule over Mikel Alonso - the big brother of Liverpool ace Xabi Alonso.

The 27-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder is one of two potential new signings who have joined Wanderers at their training camp in Austria.

The other is Borussia Moenchengladbach's 24-year-old Swiss international winger, David Degen.

Both players have been made available after being relegated from their respective top flight leagues last season and Lee is keen to see what they have to offer with a view to signing them on a permanent basis.

The Wanderers boss said from the club's alpine camp: "Both players could interest us for next season.

"Mikel is a creative midfielder who has an excellent passing game similar to his brother Xabi. David likes to play wide-right and exploit the flanks. He has a good turn of pace, which could add a new dimension to our style of play."

Alonso, who has been with Sociedad since 2002, making 18 appearances for the Basque club last season.

Degen, who was a member of the Switzerland squad at the 2006 World Cup, spent four seasons at FC Basel in Switzerland under former Spurs manager Christian Gross before moving to the Bundesliga.

The Wanderers' ranks will be swelled today with Nicolas Anelka, El-Hadji Diouf and Abdoulaye Faye all due to link up with the squad after being given extended breaks after international commitments.

Danny Guthrie, who joined Wanderers on a season-long loan from Liverpool, arrived on Sunday and has already made an impression ahead of the Peace Cup in South Korea.

"He is going to be a tremendous asset for us," Lee added. "He is excited about playing for us this season.

"All the players have been tremendously focussed since we got here. The focus is on preparing the lads mentally and physically for football, which starts in earnest next week in South Korea."
