UNSEASONAL weather may have postponed the traditional sports day at many schools, but it has not dampened the spirits of children at St James' CE Primary in Farnworth.
Instead of sack and egg-and-spoon races, the children staged an X-Factor style show.
A total of 160 children, aged seven to 11, took part in the show staged in front of more than 200 parents and friends, performing hit songs by groups including Abba and The Beatles.
Headteacher Paula Green said: "We would like to have a sports day but I don't think it is going to happen.
"The show was amazing."
Each class performed a song-and-dance show before all the pupils came together for the grand finale where they performed three songs together, ending with Abba's Thank You for the Music.
Miss Green said: "Every single child in the junior school took part, and all the staff wore X-Factor T-shirts which we made.
"It was a great end to the school year.
"As well as being fun, the children gain in confidence through performance."
