HORWICH RMI Harrier juniors continued their winning streak in the Young Athletes Track and Field League, convincingly winning their third match on the trot, this time at Trafford.

Just for good measure, the club also collected an Athlete of the Match award for Sam Higgins' performance over 400m, which was also saw him set a new club record. Also in fine form was Ellen Warburton, who set a new club record over 70m hurdles, as well as producing an outstanding personal best in the long jump.

An indication of the club's strength in depth was shown as they won five out of the six 4 x 100m relay races, with the under-15s boys team of Dylan Smith, Jordan Rawlinson, Sam Higgins and Danny Crompton setting a new club record.

With just one more fixture left, Horwich are now firmly at the top of the league and looking to gain promotion.

Jamie Crompton ran superbly to win the under-14s English Uphill Fell Championship in Ilkley, Yorkshire, last Sunday.

The lead changed hands several times over the 2.2K, 220m ascent course, but in the last 300 metres he overtook the leader to win in a time of 12 minutes 12 seconds.

Running at the bottom of her age group on a very tough course, April Stevenson's time of 23.13 saw her finish just outside the medals in fourth place. The winner, in a time of 20.34, was Laura Park of Ellenborough.

Horwich RMI Harrier athletes produced some good performances in the Junior League match.

Charlotte Gaffney set a new personal best over 100m and just missed out on the club record by one hundredth of a second.

Jack Thomas was close to his best over 100m and 200m, whilst Matt Storey set a new personal best over 400m as did Becky Murphy-Bates over 100m.

Two athletes braved the rain last Saturday to try out some different events at the Mid Lancs League meeting in Preston. Laura Tunstall decided to compete in the javelin as well as her usual 1,500m run and finished a surprise fourth, while Ellen Warburton did well in the sprints.
