MORE than 100 past and present members of Regent Park Golf Club braved the torrential rain last Sunday to celebrate the club's 75th anniversary with a specially organised competition open to all past members.

Competitors travelled from far afield to join current members in the 4-BBB stableford event.

Former European Tour professional Denis Durnian was a guest along with former club and tour professionals Andrew Chandler and Dereck Coope and actor Clive Russell who was a member at Regent Park in the 1960s and 70s.

Durnian had his 16-year-old son Charles, who is a one-handicapper Lancashire junior player, as his partner, with senior past captain Alan Lowe and the 2005 Bolton Champion, Nev Jameson, making the leading four ball.

They were followed by president, Geoff Bassil, and captain, Norman Guy, with guests from the BGA - president Peter Warburton and the president of the Bolton Captains' Society, Alan Birch.

Past members Bob Ashworth and Ian Richardson, won the event with 48 points.

Results 1st Bob Ashworth and Ian Richardson 48 points, 2nd Mark Latham and Paul Bartle 47 points, 3rd Paul Donelan and Keiran Whitehead 45 points, 4th Gary Gregory and Jim Colloby, 44 points, 5th David Openshaw and Jim Pride 44 points, 6th Norman Guy (captain) and Peter Warburton (BGA president) 43 points.
