THERE were ‘unbelievable’ scenes at the Bolton Wanderer’s Macron stadium as legendary sports anchor Jeff Stelling dropped in during his ‘March for Men’ in aid of prostate cancer.

Stelling, famed for hosting Sky’s Sports’ Soccer Saturday, is walking 15 marathons in 15 days, while visiting 40 of the country’s football grounds.

He was joined by about 90 fellow fundraisers for day seven of the challenge - a 26-mile walk from Wigan Athletic’s DW Stadium to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, via the Macron and Old Trafford.

The 62-year-old presenter, often greeted with an incredulous ‘unbelievable Jeff’ by Sky match reporter Chris Kamara, arrived at the Whites' home in good spirits.

He said: “It’s been fantastic, they’re a great group of walkers. We have some people with us who are suffering from prostate cancer at the moment, or they know somebody who’s suffering from prostate cancer - or in some cases know someone who has died from prostate cancer.”

The broadcasters said many men did not realise how common prostate cancer was.

He said: “By the time we finish at about 6pm tonight 10 men in the UK will have died in the UK of prostate cancer. That’s one an hour. I’d say to men who go to the Macron next season to look around themselves, and think how many of them are going to get prostate cancer. It’s a huge, huge issue.”

Stelling has already raised nearly £200,000 but said it was just as important to increase awareness. He added: “We’re trying to tell people what they can do and what they should be looking out for, because early diagnosis is the key to survival.”
