THIS little group of shops ran from Bradshawgate into what is now the Crompton Place shopping centre.
It was filled with all manner of shops from a children’s clothing shop to an electrical store.
There was a rather smart ladies’ clothing store in there too which was frequented by the rich and influential women of the town.
The little arcade was very popular with shoppers and this was a time when this part of town was always very busy.
In fact Bolton town centre was a hive of activity because in these days, thought to be the fifties, the out of town shopping centre had yet to be invented.
Middlebrook or the Trafford Centre had not yet been visualised, never mind built.
People would do all their shopping in the town centre, from clothing to food, and corner shops were vital as so few people had cars and were unable to get about other than on public transport.
