DOG-OWNERS paraded their pooches as a popular annual dog show returned for an eighth year.

Friends of Turton Tower’s Fun Dog Show took place in the grounds of the historic tower on Sunday afternoon.

Hundreds of proud owners packed the sun-soaked venue eager to prove their four-legged friends were the pick of the bunch at this year’s event.

Dog entries for the show were divided into 11 classes, including fancy dress, most beautiful bitch, most handsome dog, best small dog and best large dog.

Other classes were best veteran over seven, best puppy 6-12 months, best retriever of a sausage, best rescued dog, best in show and Father’s Day Special — ‘Dad and his dog.’

Whilst the pampered pets sized up the competition there was plenty to do for humans at the fun dog show.

All money raised goes towards helping the upkeep of Turton Tower.

The historic tower is a scheduled ancient monument and a grade I listed building which was built in the Middle Ages.

Built on high ground, it is about 600 feet above sea level.
