AN organisation which provides services for children and young adults with special educational needs and disabilities has been found to provide a good service by the Care Quality Commission.

Birtenshaw is based in Bromley Cross.

In the latest round of inspection results by the Care Quality Commission, Birtenshaw Adults Short Breaks Service in Astley Bridge, was rated good in all area, with inspectors reporting: "We saw a number of compliments from relatives of people who used the service."

All areas of the service — safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led — were all marked as good.

The report stated: "We spoke with two relatives who were very happy with the care provided. One relative spoke positively about the care and planning from staff when their relative transitioned from the children's services to adult services. They told us some of the staff moved over with their relative to help them settle in to the new service."

Birtenshaw Domiciliary Care Service in providing care and support for adults living in a supported tenancy was also rated as good in all areas.

Inspectors commented: "We observed staff interacting in a kind and friendly manner throughout the day, there was a good relationship observed between staff the service users.

"People's privacy and dignity was respected and we saw that the staff promoted independence as much as possible."

The service was said to have good links with the local community.

The report stated: "Care plans were person-centred and included information about people's likes and dislikes, interests, family backgrounds and personalities.

"There were a wide range of activities on offer for the young men to participate in."

It added: "The service had good links with the local community, which helped people who used the service to mix and integrate with the community."
