NEW homes could be built near Blackrod railway station.

Plans have been submitted to Bolton Council to construct 12 houses on the site of a former industrial unit in Station Road.

Two previous bids to build on the site were rejected, but developers say this project would help reduce the housing shortfall across the borough.

A statement from agents JPE Consultancy said: “Bolton Council have acknowledged that they cannot demonstrate a five-year supply of deliverable housing land and this development would contribute 12 much-needed family houses to this supply.

“The residential development of this site would not require the release of green field or protected land which the authority is now under pressure to consider for development.

“There are no physical constraints that would prevent the development of this land and the land can be brought forward for development immediately.”
