THE first aid training of drinkers in a club in Astley Bridge has been praised by firefighters.
Emergency services were called to the Royal British Legion Club in Belmont Road at around 10pm last night to reports of a man who had suffered a cardiac arrest.
The fire service attended with paramedics and watch manager Ian Read said people at the club were already doing chest compressions when they arrived.
Mr Read said: "It's a team effort including the people at the scene who had had cardiac training from someone. It was a great help to us to bring him round. People were doing chest compressions when we got there.
"It's not just us, it's the people around him who helped too."
The man was taken to Bolton Royal Hospital by paramedics, who were assisted by firefighters on the way there.
