SHOPPING was clearly a hectic affair in Bolton town centre during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
This busy scene of shoppers wrapped up in headscarves, hats and big coats, is in Victoria Square, at the corner where Boots the Chemist once stood and is now a bank.
Further up there are several traditional-looking shops which were, in those days, not the national brands we see today on the high street.
Everyone looks intent on getting about without dawdling on this rainy, miserable, day.
It would be amazing if we were able to trace some of the people on the photograph. Do you know anyone on here?
If you have memories of Victoria Square or recognise any of these busy shoppers, please get in touch with Gayle McBain on 01204 537269, or email gayle.mcbain@nqnw.co.uk
Shopping was very different in this era than it is today, of course. Supermarkets and internet shopping has changed the way we spend our money.
Who remembers these special days?
