TWO environmental groups continued their fight against fracking in the town centre.

Bolton Friends Of The Earth and Bolton Against Fracking set up a stall in Oxford Street on Saturday and got people to sign postcards addressed to the Government minister for business, energy and industrial strategy Greg Clark.

The cards call on the minister not to allow hydraulic fracturing, fracking, for the extraction of shale gas in Preston New Road near Blackpool.

Elizabeth Shepherd, from Bolton Friends Of The Earth, said: "Renewable energy is the technology of the future — fossil fuels belong in the past.

"Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have said no to fracking. Lancashire said no. Greg Clark should say no to fracking."

Cheshire folk singer Charlotte Peters Rock also entertained the public with a selection of her songs about fracking and other issues.

The event was part of an international day of action on climate change, which was organised by International Friends Of The Earth and took place in 30 countries.
