A HEADTEACHER from Bolton had an appointment with royalty.

Simon Bramwell, the executive principal of SS Simon and Jude’s CE Primary, was honoured with an OBE for his services to education as he marked his 25th year as headteacher. The Great Lever school was in special measures when he took over and is now one of Bolton’s outstanding schools.

Mr Bramwell was also drafted into Dukesgate in Little Hulton in 2011, when it also fell into special measures and he helped turn it around in just 100 school days.

He received the award from Prince William at Buckingham Palace.

The father-of-two who lives in the borough, said: “The whole family had a fantastic day, from start to finish it went perfectly. I was very pleased to have met Prince William and been able to share briefly the mission and successes of the organization I have the pleasure to lead.

"Not only is it obviously a hugely proud moment for me personally, but also for all the people who do the work ‘on the ground’ to try and transform life chances for young people across the region, within our Trust, as well as the governors and trustees who have supported me over the years.”
