CLEVER teams have managed to make big bucks from petty cash for a good cause.

Members of Bolton's businesses were tasked with raising as much money as possible from £50 in a special Bolton Hospice challenge.

Eight groups took on the £50 Challenge Apprentice-style task in October and raised over £10,304 for the charity.

Hospice fundraiser Kathryn Willett said: "We are over the moon.

"Our participating companies pulled out all the stops to make this challenge a huge success.

"Their hard work and dedication will make such a difference to our patients and their families and we cannot thank them enough."

Teams from Cosatto, Donnelly Bentley, Stansfield Sports Injury Clinic, Marlborough Fund Managers, Stateside Foods, Farrell Heyworth, Barclays, Doodah Embroidery and DW Gym took part.

The aim was to raise as much as possible throughout October with £50, donated by sponsors Harewood Associates.

Winners were revealed at an awards ceremony hosted by Grosvenor Casino on November 30.

Cosatto came out on top, raising £2,447 through escapades such the ‘Cosatto Olympics’ – 128 miles of either running, cycling, cross training or rowing throughout October – karaoke on a barge, curry day, raffle of a car seat on social media and halloween dress up.

Donnelly Bentley won the title of most creative fundraising idea with an army of knitters who made and sold knitted chocolate oranges, while Marlborough Fund Managers were crowned best sports team.
