CHRISTMAS, a time for peace on Earth and goodwill to all men — and amassing bins full of rubbish.

By Boxing Day, houses are crammed with cardboard boxes, empty bottles and yards of wrapping paper.

Here is a handy guide to make sure you do not miss your council recycling bin collections over Christmas and New Year 2017.

Recycling and non-recycling waste collections will not take place on Boxing Day — Tuesday, December 26 — but will happen on Saturday, December 30 instead.

All items must be put out for collection from 6.30am as usual.

Other collections will remain the same over Christmas and New Year.

Between Boxing Day and January 12, the council will collect extra bags of rubbish that will not fit in wheelie bins.

After that, the council will return to its policy of not collecting any waste left outside wheelie bins.

Councillor Lian Pate, the council’s executive member for community services, said: “We’re coming up to the time of the year when many people generate a lot of extra rubbish, much of which can be recycled. Things like wrapping paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, and cans can all be recycled rather than throwing it away with the rest of your general rubbish.”
