A MAN has died after being hit by a train.
Police were called at around 1.30pm to reports a person had been struck by a train near Clifton railway station.
The ambulance service attended along with police officers and the man died at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and police are working to identify the man's next of kin.
All lines were blocked between Bolton and Salford Crescent while the incident was dealt with.
Most services to and from Bolton were being cancelled while the line was cleared and the rest were severely delayed.
All lines have now reopened but trains may still be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
A full service is anticipated to be running by 4.30pm.
A Northern rail spokesman said that they are looking at running bus connections between Salford and Bolton, while some train services may also be diverted or run non-stop between some stations.
Passengers are advised to listen for station announcements for specific train service amendments.
