A ‘DOTING dad’ took his own life after battling a series of personal crises he hid from his family and close friends, an inquest heard.
Michael Tansey, aged 39, was found hanged at his home in Eden Street, Astley Bridge on September 26 last year.
His body was discovered by bailiffs and a locksmith who had arrived at his flat that morning to carry out a repossession of the property.
His family had been unaware of his financial difficulties.
The court also heard how Mr Tansey had been profoundly affected by the break-up from his partner, the mother of his daughter. He had battled depression and alcoholism since about 2005.
Mr Tansey had been the victim of ‘ knifepoint robbery at his own home in April 2014. And the court heard he was also ‘devastated’ when his assailants were granted early release on parole.
Recording a verdict of suicide, assistant coroner Timothy Brennand said he believed Mr Tansey had ‘given up’. Addressing the family he said: “The loss must be unimaginable, and for that I am so sorry.”
