FRUSTRATED motorists were today hit by further delays on a road that has been closed for months, despite being told that it would partially re-open today.
Bolton Council announced yesterday that Bolton Road, in Farnworth, would partly re-open from 7am this morning.
The bridge has been closed since it was damaged by a burst water main on August 17 last year, as Network Rail continues structural work to stabilise the bridge and rebuild the roads above it.
It was due to open for drivers heading southbound, towards Kearsley roundabout, but remained closed this morning.
The latest delay was said to be caused by Network Rail and the scheduled re-opening was then planned for midday.
A council spokesman said: "The road was due to re-open at 7am but, due to a delay from Network Rail, it will now re-open later this morning."
The road re-opened at around 1.50pm.
