FAMILIES helped raise more than £500 at two charity car washes hosted by Bolton fire crews.

Firefighters at both Horwich and Farnworth stations got to work scrubbing and cleaning vehicles to raise vital funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.

The Farnworth crews were supported by Farnworth Community Fire Cadets for the fundraisers on Saturday, March 10.

Resident Rachel Shaw, who visited the Farnworth station, said: "My son is one of the cadets who was helping out.

"I had my car washed when I dropped him off and they all did a good job for a very worth cause."

Visitors drove their vehicles onto the yard where fire hoses blasted their wheels and bonnets.

Horwich crew manager Jason Martin said: "We would like to thank all the kind people who came down and supported us.

"We raised £305 that will go to The Fire Fighters Charity to help injured firefighters throughout the UK."

Visitors were also given free information on the Safe and Well visits provided by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, which includes fitting a free smoke alarm.
