HORWICH Harriers' presentation evening on Friday saw awards handed out to the club's big achievers, including father and son, Gary and Michael Chadderton, who won five trophies between them including the club overall champion honour for Gary.

The under-11 girls also featured having done exceptionally well at cross country – first in the Red Rose League and second in the South East Lancs League.

After the awards night, the club’s members travelled to compete in a large range of events at the weekend.

On the fells, Danny Hope was fifth at the Black Coombe race.

Dan Gilbert and Mark Walsh had mid-field finishes in the Edale Skyline race, while David Barnes did another round of the Shropshire Fell League and was third V60 at the Wrekin.

Andy Ford was seventh of 313 finishers at the 31-mile Haworth Hobble having led for half of the race.

Best team performance of the weekend was at the Roddlesworth Roller multi-terrain race where Nick Leigh, recovered from a shoulder injury, took third place and the team of Leigh, Rob Jackson and Graham Schofield were second in the vets’ team competition and fourth in the senior competition.

Graham Schofield was first V60 and Rob Jackson was third V50. It was the first time Jackson was outside the top 10 in 26 years of running this race.

Three juniors ran for Greater Manchester at the Inter Counties cross country championships at Loughborough.

Eva Baldwin was the second counter for Greater Manchester as they finished 14th of 42 counties in the under-13 girls' competition, while Lucy Dixon was not far behind in the same race. Robert Seddon helped the u15 boys to 30th place.

Elsewhere, Julie Williamson returned to longer efforts in the Chester Ultra 50, Matthew Flatters was speedy at the fast Podium 5k race competing as a junior against seniors and Neil Holding was first V55 again at the Lancaster 10k.

Julian Goudge was fifth at the Firefighters Duathlon in his other club’s colours, while Geoff Leech and Neil Wilkes did compete in Horwich colours for 203rd place.

The standout parkrun performance this week was from Aidan McKenna who was first at the Queens Park junior parkrun. Richard Howarth was first at Cuerden Valley again.
