A TRUCK lost its roof as its driver tried to take it under a low bridge after being diverted from a closed motorway.

The M60 is currently closed at night between junctions 15 and 17 as part of the smart motorway project.

One truck was diverted through Walkden and was being driven along Walkden Road when it collided with the low metal bridge at the railway station.

The roof of the truck was ripped off and became embedded in the bridge.

Firefighters were called at around 5am by police and had to remove the roof of the truck from the bridge.

The road was closed for around two hours while it the truck was recovered.
