A STOLEN car was recovered by police after a resident reported the abandoned vehicle in a back street near their house.

Officers received a call from a member of the public yesterday about the car in Back Bury Road, Breightmet.

Officers attended in the morning and carried out checks that revealed the car had been stolen just two days before.

Police said the vehicle had been stolen from Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge on Monday.

Officers called for the car to be recovered and it has been taken away for forensic examination.

Once police have finished with the vehicle it can be returned to the owner.

Posting on Facebook, GMP Bolton North said: “Call received from a member of the public about an abandoned vehicle on Back Bury Road, Breightmet. “Officers have just attended and turns out that the vehicle had been stolen from Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge on Monday 2nd April. Vehicle now recovered for a forensic examination.”

Bolton Council is responsible for abandoned vehicles in the borough but people can also report them to the police using 101.

If you do, you will need the registration number, the make and model and the precise location of where it is located.

The council can remove an abandoned vehicle or attempt to contact the owner to get them to remove it themselves.
