Work to repair a grade II listed bridge and “safeguard” it for future generations will go ahead after planners gave the green light.

The maintenance work at Prestolee Packhorse Bridge, in Stoneclough, will include replacing stone work using a system approved by Historic England.

And a surface will also be laid to the footpath, which currently does not have one, creating muddy conditions for walkers.

Cllr Sean Hornby said: “The whole area is magnificent and I would just like to pay tribute to the number of people who are spending a lot of time there. At Prestolee Bridge in particular the amount of work they have done is amazing.”
