DASHCAM footage shows a car fleeing from police at speeds as high as 90mph before the driver managed to escape on foot.

A police car saw the Ford travelling above the speed limit on Manchester Road, in the Wingates area of Westhoughton, and activated its sirens and lights, hoping to warn the driver about the speed he was travelling at.

However, the driver did not stop and the officer then gave chase.

The chase took place at around 2.30am on Saturday, March 31.

The car was then followed at high speeds down Manchester Road towards High Lane Ends before turning down Newbrook Road and then Bolton Road into the centre of Atherton.

Near Atherton town centre, PC Matthew Picton, from Greater Manchester Police's Special Operations Roads Policing Unit, took over the chase.

Footage from inside his car shows the car continuing down Bolton Road and onto Leigh Road.

Fortunately, the roads were quiet as the chase took place in the early hours of the morning.

The dashcam footage shows the car reaching speeds in excess of 90mph as the driver tries to get away from police in the 30mph areas.

Once in Leigh the car turns down Kirkhall Lane and then onto Atherleigh Way and down Twist Lane.

The driver then drove down a back alley and along with two passengers fled from the car.

Officers managed to arrest the two passengers who were later released but the driver managed to escape.

When police carried out checks, they found the car was not insured and that it was driving around on false plates.

The also did not have an MOT or any tax so it was seized by police.

PC Picton said: "Dangerous driving will not be tolerated. We will do everything in our powers to keep the road safe from dangerous drivers. There is too many deaths on our roads."

Anyone with information about the driver can contact police on 101.
