A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after the body of a man was found at a house in Whitefield.

Police were called to a house in Ripon Avenue shortly after 12.35pm on Wednesday following reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

Officers arrived at the address and found the body of a 27-year-old man.

It is believed that the man was involved in an earlier altercation at a property on Rydal Close in Bury before he returned to Ripon Avenue.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and remains in custody for questioning.

An investigation has been set up into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police cars were parked outside the house in Rydal Close on Thursday morning.

One resident said there had been an incident at the house on Tuesday afternoon, after which she saw a man walk down the street 'covered in blood'. 

A Home Office post mortem is due to take place today to establish the exact cause of the man’s death.

Detective Inspector John Stainton of GMP’s Bury borough, added: “We have specially trained officers supporting the man’s family and I want to assure them that we are doing all we can to find out what happened.

“While we have arrested a man, our investigation is in its very early stages and I would urge anyone with any information that could assist our investigation to please get in touch.”
