THE Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton visited the RSPCA's local centre to encourage more volunteers to work there.

Mayor of Bolton Councillor Roger Hayes and his wife Jaleh, toured the new facility on Vernon Street on Tuesday.

They met with staff, volunteers and clients during the visit to the animal charity’s offices, shop and veterinary clinic.

The mayor said: “I am very impressed with the work being done at the centre.

“I am an enthusiastic supporter of this cause. I would also urge all owners to have their pets both microchipped and neutered.”

The RSPCA clinic is open on Tuesdays and Fridays and offers treatments at subsidised prices to cats and dogs, whose owners are on means-tested benefits.

Some of the treatments they offer include worming, flea treatments, vaccinations, microchipping and neutering.

To continue their work, the branch needs to recruit more volunteers to help with their fundraising.

Volunteers can work from two to three hours per week, or just for a couple of days a year.
