STUDENTS have joined together in support of a classmate who has been diagnosed with leukaemia.

Ethan Browne, aged 13, visited Little Lever Secondary School and was presented with a poster for an upcoming charity event created by other pupils.

The event will be held behind the school on May 26, and will raise money for cancer care at Manchester Children’s Hospital.

David Tildsley, Ethan’s uncle, whose wife Sarah came up with the idea of holding a fundraiser, said: “I was going to be having a 40th birthday party on the same day so I had already organised a few things for that. But now we have been inundated with people trying to help out.”

He went on to say that there were between 500 and 1,000 people expected for the fundraiser, which will include a five-a-side football tournament, funfair rides, music, food, raffles and stalls from local businesses.

Ethan’s mum, Emma Browne, has also organised her own sponsored event for the youngster, who will have to undergo weekly courses of chemotherapy over a three-year treatment plan.

She plans to do a skydive on June 16, while dad, Ben Browne, is taking on the Yorkshire Marathon on 14 October.

Mr Tildsely has asked anyone who represents a local business or organisation, or any individuals interested in being involved, either by donating raffle prizes or setting up a stall, to contact him on 07826 696665.
